Introductions are in order — my name's Joanne, and I'm married to Andrew, a co-creator of YourBestSugar. Our other co-creator is Eric, the technical counterpoint to my graphic design skills and Andrew's expertise in copywriting, marketing, and diabetes.
My point of view in this blog, and on this site, is that of a woman married to a man with Type 1 diabetes, who herself has a pre-diabetic condition.
When Andrew and I first started talking about creating a diabetes dating site, the idea was generated out of appreciation for our own relationship. I have felt very strongly that we have something to offer to couples who want to understand how they really relate to each other, not just at the surface level.
Every relationship we have (romantic or not) has an unspoken and often unconscious dynamic. In cases where the dynamic is unconscious, you may experience a lot of negative stuff. One of my objectives is that you gain insight into "who you are being" in your relationship(s) — so that they work.
However, knowing that Andrew and I can make a difference in peoples' lives didn't mean that I wanted to be in a public hot seat.
Is it just my age? How did our lives become so exposed? In creating YourBestSugar, I knew that Andrew and I are part of the story. In order to make an impact, we need to let people have a view into our relationship... through the very public medium of a blog. (That means even my parents!)
So in order to be truly authentic and help you meet the diabetic of your dreams, I greet you, and wish you great fulfillment and love.
